Myself and 3 friends played a show in a small town outside of Qingdao on Christmas Eve. It was freezing cold and in the open, nevertheless there were loads of people.
The driver who was sent to pick us up before the show was from the countryside and had no idea how to get around in a city, although he repeatedly assured us of the contrary.
He called Xinna saying he was almost at our home so Xinna went out to meet him. After over 30 minutes of waiting on the street the guy arrived in a taxi...as a passenger. He wasn't able to find our home so he had left his van and taken a taxi to our address. Xinna had to ride back to his van with him and then direct him to our house.
The driver again assured us that he knew how to get to the next destination, but we began to doubt his claims when we found ourselves in a traffic jam going the complete opposite direction from where we wanted to be.
Xinna jumped up front and tried to direct him out of the mess which proved extremely frustrating and more than a little dangerous as the driver either had no idea of the differences between "left' and "right"...or just didn't care. At one point we said (in Chinese) "take your first right" and he immediately started to pull a left U-turn, we all screamed and he corrected the maneuver to a mild jaunt into oncoming traffic.
We then stopped at a red light and told him repeatedly to "go straight", he kept snapping at us "I know I KNOW WHERE I AM GOING". So the light turned green and he turned right...onto a highway ramp...going the wrong way into traffic.
These shenanigans continued for some time before we picked up the rest of the very cold and very pissed off band and blasted our way down the highway to the town.
Once we arrived in the driver's home town his reckless driving antics turned to grace as we found ourselves in a sea of maniacal driving mayhem. In this place where being in the correct lane warrants a good honking and red and green traffic lights are purely decorative for the Christmas season the driver relaxed considerably and we finally arrived at our show.
